The EFG Rapotín BPS waste biogas plant, which was the first in the Czech Republic to start supplying biomethane to the gas distribution system in 2019, set a Czech record for the volume of biomethane supplied to the distribution network within 24 hours. On February 19, 2026, it produced 9,706 m³ of biomethane, surpassing its previous record of 9,413 m³ set last summer. This volume corresponds to the daily natural gas consumption of approximately 5,200 households.
The result of systematic work across the EFG group
This record performance is the result of a long-term, well-functioning chain of activities across the entire EFG group – from the logistics of input materials, through technological production management and continuous optimization of all biological and production processes, to the final delivery of biomethane to the distribution system.
“The record daily performance of the Rapotín station is the result of synergy across the entire group. Thanks to the expansion of the customer network of the waste collection company EFG Waste Logistic, the biogas plant team has access to sufficient biodegradable waste to optimize the input substrate mix and increase its yield. This has a direct impact on the efficiency of biogas production. Our company, EFG Engineering, has been working for a long time on improving the technological processes of waste processing in biogas plants, biogas production, and its subsequent conversion into biomethane,” explains Pavel Bureš, CTO at EFG, adding: “It’s all very complex and ultimately a team effort. Without a systematically and responsibly functioning collective at all levels, these results would not have been possible.”
Last year alone, the waste collection company EFG Waste logistic managed to collect almost 19,000 tonnes of biodegradable waste for environmentally friendly disposal, not only from food companies and supermarkets, but also from cities, municipalities, and catering facilities as part of the “Třídím gastro” (I sort food waste) project. EFG Rapotín BPS processes up to 30,000 tonnes of exclusively biodegradable waste per year, without the use of purpose-grown biomass. The company supplies the energy produced to the distribution system and uses part of it to streamline its production processes. In the form of biomethane, it can cover the annual consumption of more than 5,000 Czech households. Electricity is supplied to the grid, while heat is used by part of the municipality of Rapotín for water heating and space heating.
